As with the interior of every house, car, or office space, routine cleanings are a requirement in order to prevent the risk of viral outbreaks, mold, or even disease. You are a spiritual house/temple for the Spirit of the Lord(See 1 Corinthians 6:19), and there are many sinful and weighty things in life that could pose a threat to the overall godliness of your personal establishment. If these same sinful things aren’t properly checked, cleaned, or avoided at all costs, then greater danger awaits you in the form of iniquity. The longer a stain(sin) is present, the harder it is for it to be removed. Please take that in mind.

This part is actually pretty simple. The way in which we remain clean is by reading and meditating upon the Word of God daily(see Psalm 119:9). When Will We Be Forever Cleaned?

In our spiritual lives here on earth, there’ll never be a moment where we won’t need to be cleaned. This is on the account of the fact that we're living our lives inside of flawed physical bodies. Don’t get yourself down just yet though, it gets better! See, the gift of salvation was never intended for our physical bodies, but for our souls in actuality. Therefore, when Jesus returns for us(His elect) He will make us like Him(see 1 John 3:2). We’ll be eternally cleaned and clothed with white garments in New Jerusalem with Him for all eternity. Now being that we have this assured hope in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we are to hold on to our salvation through continual seeking of His face and Word! 

Don’t let the idea of spiritual cleaning be treated as just another task on your to do list. Instead, let it act as a lifelong process in your life as you strive to move closer and closer to the God who loves and cares about you.
