I DON’T LIKE WHERE I'M AT: Finding the Why in Your Undesirable Status Quo

You’re at an undesirable job, sick and tired of the dishonorable situation that it continues to pose to you. Everyday, you have to wake up and face a boss who doesn’t like you, and coworkers who can’t stand you. You want out, but this job is what pays your bills and you can’t afford to lose it, what do you do? There are a plethora of times in life where we’re faced with dead end situations that we just can’t seem to get ourselves out of, but could there still be purpose in them? Let’s find out below:

Making the most of where you’re at

A lot of times we tend to be faced with difficult situations in life that just don’t seem to have an escape. However, what we must focus on is the purpose that our current situation is serving at the moment. For example, God may have you living in the roughest spot of town, all for the purpose of positively impacting individuals everyday by your conduct and devotion(see Acts 27). If you move prematurely, then that could result in life consequences both for you and those people. As hard as it sounds, stay put.

Keeping your focus on the silver lining

Focusing on the silver lining means seeing the positive side of a situation as a whole, detail by detail. Even though your situation may be hard and frustrating at times, there is still good things that are coming out of it in there somewhere. Count the blessings that are hidden underneath the solid surface of your pain and frustration. You’re still alive, you can walk, you can talk, you can eat, you can work all on your own by the grace of God, that’s a big deal. Realizing the reality of God’s blessing in light of your difficult circumstance can almost make the situation not look as bad. It’s all a matter of perspective. Is the glass half-full or half-empty? You decide.

Applying patience and hope

Patience is a virtue, you need it to last the duration of almost everything in life. We can all agree that life is hard, and that everyone goes through tough times. So apply patience to your situation coupled with hope, even if you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Bad times don’t last forever, but neither do bad hopeless people. If you don’t apply patience, then the circumstance will consume you. Have faith that God will see you through. Wait on Him, hope in Him, and trust in Him for He will never fail you.

Seek Purpose

If you continue to find yourself displeased with your status quo, then that may mean that it's time to seek purpose. God created you for something for specific, unique, and special. Your job is to find out what that is! Pray to God and ask Him earnestly for an answer on what He wants you to do with your life. His answer will probably blow your mind and lead you to a lifetime of fulfillment. A purposeful life in Jesus is much better than anything you'll experience in life.

God gave your life meaning and purpose. He also gave you patience and endurance for the unfavorable seasons. Even though it may not look like glits and glam right now at the place where you're at, encourage yourself with His truth. Make the most of where you're at. Find one step that you could take towards your purpose in Christ today while you're waiting. It will make all the difference.
